Hello again!

I’m writing to reconnect with my bloggers! It’s been a crazy last few months and I am so ready for school to be out!! My oldest son is in Austin taking summer classes! I dropped by unannounced and found his apartment very clean except for his bedroom and bathroom. (Typical for him).

It’s why boys need moms to drop in periodically!
We have had recitals and end of year programs and a National honor society inductee as well as employees taking vacations and blah blah blah!
So I’m exhausted and what did I decide to do about it?
I’m adding more yoga classes to my routine. It will be good for me and I need to focus on overcoming the tedium that the end of the school year causes in a family. No they aren’t doing much in school but here it is summertime and what shall we do as parents?
I’m going to enjoy it and focus on my yoga classes!

Mothers

20140510-214714.jpg

My mother was the person that put dinner on the table and made sure we were where we needed to be on time. She was the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, and a bag of chips.
My mother wasn’t the stay at home type, she’s smart. Yes, that’s a horrible stereotype, but during my childhood, it was one or the other. Most mothers didn’t work full time or even part time, and how my siblings and I didn’t drive my mother crazy is beyond me! No computers, smart phones or even cable tv, and we still survived?
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you!
No mother is perfect but we all try the best we can. Offer more than you’ve ever received.
My mom is a hero to me and I can only wish my children feel the same!

Love and life

Love is but a sandy foundation to build a life on. A life requires sediment; rock, trees, dirt and sweat.
It requires disagreements and fights, falling down and getting back up.
So many people have fallen so many times that getting back up just isn’t worth it. It’s how we deal with set backs, that teach others our strengths. Do you believe in yourself?
The only person that you can really disappoint is you! Don’t let others disappointment in you cloud your judgement. It’s not worth it!

Valentine’s Day

20140213-231800.jpg
I think of Valentines Day as the ultimate “hallmark” holiday! I’m sure it comes from owning a pharmacy that sells the most expensive cards on VD to wife and Mother’s Day! It’s just too much. Celebrate love every day and forget what anyone else thinks. My daughter and her dad had a great time at the dance but is that love? Yes, he loves her unconditionally but I hope and pray she holds out for hearts and flowers and everything else.
I hope that I teach her that Love is more than just hearts and flowers. True love is being there, holding you when you cry and supporting you when you’re trying. Love is saying I’m proud of you and I enjoy spending time with you. Love is forgiveness and acceptance. That’s my Valentines summary. We need more than one day a year to confess our love! Never forget to say I love you to those who mean the most to you!

Laughter

20140212-192946.jpg
Because laughter really is the best medicine for anything!
These photos were taken by a friend of mine in the classy place that I call my garage. Lots of people think I have the perfect life, but the one thing that makes it wonderful, is that I’m able to laugh at myself, and others, when necessary.
Laughter makes all the difference and a real smile is worth a million fake ones! Have a wonderful Valentine’s day, enjoy the full snow moon and laugh until your belly aches!

Ha! Got my hair did!

A woman having her hair done and coming out feeling beautiful and attractive. Does that come with age?
When did my makeup routine become more about wrinkle and acne products than makeup products?
Basically I use BB cream foundation, a smattering of blush, mascara and Burts Bees lip color. I’m done. Take it or leave it.

My baby boy came home to visit me from college. It’s been an unusually stressful week and semester for us all.
What a great way to spend the evening, listening to jazz and eating sushi. Appreciate your women, men!!!

I HATE BRAS!!!!

20131114-151526.jpg
Okay so I’m not the only woman that walks in the door and takes off her bra before kicking off her shoes or setting her purse down. I know this because you’ve all told me you do it. Unless you took it off in the car on the way home, which I have done. So why, if we hate them so much do we subject ourselves to it. I was convinced a man invented bras but that is not the case. Both early patents where issued to women, one in Europe and one in America.
Bras were invented for modesty and to adhere to the standards of fashion.
Well, I’m not that modest or that fashionable I suppose!

20131114-152535.jpg
These are just a few au naturale photos and I just don’t care! I’ll never fit the norms of the perfect breast size so I say forget the bra. I use modesty inserts when needed and I have to wear a bra to work with most clothing but I also live in yoga clothes.
“Bra designers liken designing a bra to building a bridge, because similar forces are at work. Just as a bridge is affected vertically by gravity and horizontally by earth movement and wind, forces affecting a bra’s design include gravity and sometimes tangential forces created when a woman runs or turns her body.” , according to Wikipedia.

I don’t want to wear a suspension bridge any longer! haha!
So, someone told us that our breasts would sag without a bra. My mother told me mine wouldn’t grow without a bra. I’ve done my time, worked in a corporate world, breast fed 3 children until they were 18-33 months old and I’m done.
“Women’s breasts naturally sag as a woman grows older. Bras don’t prevent breasts from sagging, with regard to stretching of the breast ligaments and drooping in later life, that occurs very regularly anyway, and that’s a function of the weight, often of heavy breasts, and these women are wearing bras and it doesn’t prevent it.”
Breast tissue is fat and cannot be toned like muscle. It makes no sense to me fight this and be miserable so I say,
“Burn the bra” ladies as long as you don’t embarrass your kids or boss!

I’m just a human mother

20131111-224632.jpg
I don’t consider myself a super mom by any stretch of the imagination. My kids get their vaccinations and make straight A’s, generally. I’ve never put as much pressure on grades as I have on learning. I need time to myself to unwind and I’m usually pretty grumpy in the mornings.
Luckily, my family is supportive in my quest for betterment and they live with my faults.
I had a delightful girls weekend in Awesome, Texas (Austin) over November 8-10. We went to visit my son and attend the Wanderlust Festival for yoga training. Yes, it was a double trip, to check up on him and get away to do yoga! We also felt the need to see some live music and rock the night away. Which we did!
I took some awesome classes and completely fell in love with a new form of yoga that I had never practiced even after 15 years. More about that later.

I made it home after a relatively eventful weekend to a mostly clean house and lots of laundry with a washer that won’t spin. (It will eventually but you have to jump start it and a real repairman actually tried to fix it). I had to wait for him today as well as a car part.
So I’m expecting a quiet day at home with the kids at school, but my daughter complained about a sore throat last night and she never complains. After over the counter pain relievers that didn’t help (being the pharmacist that I am), I tried this tea.
I added honey for its soothing effect but she didn’t like it sweetened. It made a huge difference. No, she didn’t make it to school today and my day of rest was interrupted by a beautiful, sick daughter.
I may not be the perfect mom but I do the best that I can.

Namaste’

20131101-195529.jpg

What a beautiful word for a beautiful concept. Yoga can be an essential influence on your mental health as well as your physical health! Sometimes it simply feels good to breathe. Find your spot and practice 10 minutes. Just to quiet our troubled lives and complicated routines, give yourself 10 minutes a day to breathe!
